Care and maintenance of your tap
Taps are an essential piece in our daily life.
All our taps, from the most classic to the most modern ones, need a minimal care and maintenance in order to prolong their operating life.
Some factors should be taken under consideration, such as water hardness, moisture or accumulated sediments in the pipes which can negatively affect the functionality of our taps.
Frequently we do not pay attention to the care and maintenance of the tap, until their functionality starts to fail or their aesthetics get damaged. Nevertheless, the following tips are given so that our taps do not suffer any damage and work like the first day.
Daily care
For a better and lasting preservation of the tap, it would be ideal to clean and dry the tap after every use. This habit will avoid the accumulation of lime and spots from the sediments which will definitely damage the aesthetics of the tap.
Lime is one of the biggest enemies for any tap, prevent the accumulation of lime is fundamental to extend the tap’s operating life.
External maintenance
For the external cleaning of the tap, it is only needed a wet cloth or soft sponge mixed with conventional neutral soap. It is highly important not to clean the taps with abrasive products, as these cleaners contain acids and ammonia which are harmful and may damage the surface of the tap.
For the external cleansing is it not only recommended to use a wet cloth or soft sponge together with conventional neutral soap, but also white vinegar or lemon can be use as a remedy, which will not affect the aesthetics of the tap.
Internal maintenance
In order to clean the internal part of the tap, it is fundamental to clean the filters of the water. The hardness of the water will lead to an accumulation of residues inside the filters, which may eventually affect the operation of the tap. In order to proceed with the internal cleansing, we should unscrew the aerator from the tap and rinse it with water, doing that we will eliminate the accumulated residues.
For a deeper cleaning process of the filters, one of the optimal solutions is to immerse the filter in a solution of hot water together with vinegar for a few minutes, and then rub the filter with a brush.
The accumulation of residues in the aerator can be avoided by installing filters in the water shut off valves, doing that the appearance of impurities into the internal system of the tap can be prevented.
Setting
The daily use of the tap may affect the tightness of the installed tap. If the tap moves on the sink or the countertop, it is likely that the tap gets out its place. However, it can be readjusted under the sink by using the Easy fix set.
